Academic Success

The Class of 2019 achieved some excellent and well deserved VCE results.

I congratulate our Class of 2019 on their success in the VCE. The result was another exceptional performance by Yarra Valley Grammar students.

All eligible students successfully completed the VCE with 36.5% of students achieving an ATAR of 90 or above. The median ATAR of 85.4 is our highest performance to date and means that more than half of the year level achieved in the top 15% of the state. There were seven perfect scores of 50 and the joint Duces of the School Madi Phuah and Max Sammann achieved an ATAR of 99.75. This is an outstanding achievement.

For the whole cohort, 18.8% of the study scores were over 40 and the median study score for the year was 34.

We are very proud of the efforts of the Class of 2019. They have worked well together as a group and contributed more broadly in a very positive way to the life of our School during their time with us.

These outstanding results in my view can be attributed to a number of factors:

  • Great work by the students
  • A very positive culture in the School which balances strong pastoral care with an appropriate expectation of academic rigor
  • Programs in the Junior and Middle Schools which develop leadership qualities, work ethic and skills
  • Great expertise shown by our VCE teachers to teach, encourage and support our students to do their best
  • The students who availed themselves of additional opportunities provided by their teachers particularly in the final weeks
  • Strong backing from our School families

Congratulations to our latest alumni and their teachers for all their fine work.
